TOKYO
Tokyo is the capital of Japan and it is officially known as the Tokyo Metropolis. It is one of the 47 prefectures (or areas) of Japan. The centre of the greater Tokyo area is the most highly populated metropolitan area in the world. It is one of the world's megacities.
The Tokyo Metropolis is located in the southern Kanto region of Japan. It is positioned at the center of the Japanese archipelago. It is bordered to the north by the Saitama prefecture, to the east by the Edogawa River and the Chiba prefecture, to the south by the Tamagawa River and the Kanagawa prefecture, and to the west by mountains and the Yamanashi prefecture.
Could Tokyo's population get any larger?
Tokyo has been ranked one of the world's largest megacities and is crowded with a current population of 13.35 million people - and growing! With so many people there's bound to be some problems.
Some might say the city is over-populated. This has lead to a range of urban problems for the city to manage. In order for the city to continue to support people to live there Tokyo has had to find innovative solutions to deal with their urban problems.
